Audition information for our first play of the season:
“The Fighting Days”, written by Wendy Lill, directed by Simon Challenger
Set in Winnipeg during 1910-1917, the play focuses on the life and work of Francis Marion Beynon, a Manitoba journalist and political activist. When the play opens, she meets Nellie McClung and becomes involved in the Votes-for-Women movement. As the newly hired writer and editor of the women’s page in The Rural Review, her views end up becoming controversial when Canada becomes involved in World War l and the conscription crisis divides the suffragists. A play about the polarities of public and private lives and issues of racism and pacifism, “The Fighting Days” deals with timeless moral concerns.
Arts Manitoba describes it as - “An unusually insightful investigation of social conscience.”
