Audition Notice for Radioland '48

Naked Stage is pleased to offer, "Radioland '48" by Kirsten Van Ritzen and directed by Colleen McGoff Dean as the first production of our 2024/2025 season.

It’s 1948 and a radio station is about to be closed forever. The employees of CHLO desperately try to save their studio with a marathon broadcast of a loopy serial, as romance blossoms between a pair of naïve ingenues and a couple of cynical careerists. This hilarious one-act romp is an homage to screwball romantic comedies with a contemporary twist.

Roles include:
Bennet Burton (male 40-50’s) Radio Announcer - confident, charming, a man’s man like Cary Grant; he  loves women almost as much as he loves the sound of his own voice. 

Ruby P. Maxwell (female 30-40’s) Station Manager - a passionate dame like Katherine Hepburn, she has a  zest for life and enjoys the sizzling repartee with Burton  

Lewis Hockley (male 20’s) Copy Writer - a naive farm boy, tongue-tied around women, in love with Melody   

Melody Chambers (female 20’s) Secretary - competent, guileless, painfully shy, in love with Lewis  

Audition - Saturday, September 21st, 11:00 - 4:00 at Newton Cultural Centre, 13530-72 Ave. Surrey

Rehearsals* - Tuesday evenings Sept. 24- Oct. 29, 6:30 - 9:15 pm, tech run Oct. 30th, 5:30 - 9:30
Performances - Nov. 1 and 2 at 7:30 pm and Nov. 3 at 2:00 pm
(Rehearsals and Performances take place at Newton Cultural Centre)

* In addition to our regular rehearsal schedule, we will be showcasing our rehearsal process during the White Rock Arts Crawl in the White Rock vicinity during the daytime of Oct. 5th and 6th, so actors would need to be available for those additional dates.
Actors who are cast must be able to attend all rehearsals and performances and must join Naked Stage Productions Society as a member if not already.

Sides will be emailed to you prior to the audition day however there is no need to memorize sides. Deadline to request a time is end of day September 19th, however we urge actors to respond earlier, since time slots are limited. Please contact the Producer with any questions.
